Laptop time

It's been a long time since I've blogged, but I've finally got something more to blog. I've finally gotten a laptop and as soon as I finish my class, I will load Linux onto it. I've done some prep work and am ready to get start. The laptop is a Sony VAIO VGN-FS742/W. I wanted a screen big enough to actually be able to read, so it's got a 15.4 wide screen. It's a 1.73 GHz Centrino with 512 Meg memory. I will probably increase the memory to 1 Gig but not sure yet. The hard drive is a 80 Gig, so it's enough for me.

The laptop is going to be my main machine and is replacing a 450 MHz computer that I put together. I didn't want to go with a desktop replacement since I wanted some battery life. I can go a bit over 2 hours on a charge. I might get a spare battery to increase that.

I booted up with Knoppix and was surprised that it found my wireless adapter. I was shocked that I could get right onto the Internet. One of the reasons that I picked this laptop is I knew it had a supported wireless adapter. I then used QParted to adjust the partitions. I guess I should have done away with the recovery partition, but 6 Gig is nothing. When I finally get Linux loaded up, I'll wipe these partitions and reload XP.
