No!!! It's a winmodem

I played around with kppp last night. It tried to initialize the modem when I set it up for ttyS0 and ttyS1, but when on ttyS2, it said the modem was busy. This is com3 and that's what the modem is set for.

I did a little digging today and found that my PC tel HPS56 micromodem is a winmodem. This is a really bad thing. This means it is lacking some of the hardware required to function on it's own. The good thing is I found the linmodem site, and they have lots of good info about winmodems. I'm fairly certain I saw my modem listed as working. I guess that's a good thing about having old hardware.

I will need to run the chipset scan tool, to get info on which drivers to use. I feel certain that I will be able to get it working.

Well, I ran the scan and it's a PC tel HPS56 MicroModem. I downloaded the driver it said to download and ran setup. Fired up minicom and it dialed. This is great. I used it today to post to the forums. It is connecting much slower than normal, though. I have to check that out and see what's wrong. Might be the initialization string for the modem.
